What we believe

Solving the 2 Sigma Problem!

Every student deserves a great teacher together with an individualized & personalized learning experience that celebrates their unique gifts and builds their confidence and enthusiasm to take on new challenges. At 21st Century Stem Academy, we provide every student with great teachers and an educational environment designed to propel every student to success.

Effective education must be mastery based therefore our classes are complimented by one-to-one and small group tutoring where teachers provide support to every student until they achieve mastery. This research-based approach is designed to "solve" The 2 Sigma Problem, and is proven to significantly enhance student achievement, with the average student who uses the combined one-to-one tutoring and mastery learning approach performing better than 98% of all students using a traditional classroom-only approach.

Schools should be human-scale. Our school offers a teacher to student ratio of 1:12 with a maximum of 100 students on this campus.

School should be convenient and family friendly. Our doors are open from 7:15am to 6:30pm and we offer 200 school-days each year with students required to attend for a minimum of 180 days. This flexible scheduling is designed to accommodate family schedules and vacations.

Our school’s success should be measured by the demonstrated progress achieved by each individual student.

Character is formed in the early years of our life therefore our school environment and teachers must model good character and encourage it in the student body through positive direction and redirection.

AN EDUCATIONAL EXPERIENCE EVERY CHILD DESERVES

SCIENCE, TECHNOLOGY, ENGINEERING AND MATHEMATICS (STEM)

An estimated 65% of the jobs that will exist when today’s primary school students graduate from college do not exist today therefore we are educating our students for the jobs of the future and providing them with foundational skills that will equip them for whatever is to come. What is certain is that a majority of those jobs will involve working in STEM occupations or require a high level of competence in STEM therefore STEM skills are central in our curriculum. STEM is everywhere; it shapes our everyday experiences. Science is our natural world. Technology has changed our lives and the ways in which we interact with other people. Engineering is focused on the design of systems and problem solving. And Math is everywhere and every other STEM field depends on mathematics. Quite simply, STEM is important because it permeates every aspect of our lives.

STEM careers are professions that build communities and transform nations. STEM professionals are in charge of solving the complex problems of today’s world and its future. They are working to find solutions for global warming, cancer, third world hunger, disappearing habitats, and an interdependent world economy. STEM careers are both challenging and fun

Our STEM program follows the C-STEM ICT Pathway from UC Davis and integrates computing and robotics into STEM classes with hands-on project-based learning. The C-STEM Center at UC Davis has developed innovative computing and robotics technologies with teaching strategies, textbooks, and courseware including lesson plans, PowerPoint lessons, video lessons, group computing activities, optional robotics activities, and assessment tools and our teachers are all trained in the system by the UC Davis C-STEM center. You will see that our curriculum incorporates computer coding from Kindergarten onwards but while there is a huge demand for coding professionals today, many of those specific jobs will have been eliminated when our students graduate from college or will require different methodologies to those that we teach today. The bigger picture is that we are teaching coding because it is a mental discipline that strengthens logic, requires lateral thinking to solve problems and builds confidence & curiosity. And the significance of coding is not confined to computer programming; over the coming decades we will see exponential developments in medicine as a result of the decoding of the human genome and that achievement was of course made possible by last decade’s advances in computer science
